The Origins

The ebook Zero to 150: How Indian IT Companies used Marketing to Power $150 billion Industry’ was in fact not planned as a book but circumstances made it what it is today.

During my career with IT services companies I didn’t have a clue about the vast expanse of IT industry and struggled to find my own place and determine the future path. I was a little amazed at the somewhat irrelevance of marketing with only support function being performed.

When I became an IT sourcing advisor helping European businesses with their sourcing strategy and vendor selection than I could get better insights into the critical role being played by the marketing function even while being background. The key was knowing the core of the business which is the outsourcing value chain that has been explained in detail in one of the chapters of the book.

The book in its first form was an IT services marketing workshop which unfortunately didn’t find any takers. The objective was to help IT marketing professionals plan a structured career progession plan and help companies create a marketing cadre. After not finding any traction the initiative went into cold storage.

Book published in 2020

It was in late 2019 I thought to publish the content of the workshop in the form of a book to help entry-level IT marketing professionals and management graduates who are interested to make a career in IT service marketing and sales. The e-book was published in January 2020 on the Amazon platform and in its first year has sold 30 copies.

How book is helping professionals?

The book has helped a cross-section of professionals which includes IT entrepreneurs, investment bankers senior IT professionals, IT marketing people, and management students.

The plan is to keep evolving the book to serve the needs of professionals from IT industry and others who are interested to learn from the best marketing and sales practices of the IT industry.
